Dentists are open: treatments safely resume

Dentists across NSW and the ACT are open and treating patients.

ADA NSW President Dr Kathleen Matthews said NSW and ACT dentists recently reopened and are poised to safely treat patients with a full list of procedures now possible.
“Putting off seeing your dentist impacts your overall health. Over the past couple of months, many people were forced to delay routine dental treatment but dentists are now open and seeing patients,” Dr Matthews said.
“Regular dental appointments are important to ensure good dental hygiene and oral health. If you need dental treatment, call your regular dentists and if you don’t have one, use the ADA NSW online Dental Directory to find a dentist near you.”
In March, dentists restricted services other than urgent and emergency treatment as part of the national COVID-19 response to flatten the curve. Following a recommendation by the Australian Health Protection Principal Committee (AHPPC) on 8th May for dentists to restore services with patient screening procedures in place, most dental practitioners in NSW and ACT have now reopened.
“Australian dentists have among the highest standards of infection control in the world. Infection control processes are part of every dentists daily remit,” Dr Matthews said.
“All dental treatments, including check-ups, orthodontics and fillings, are being offered now along with additional patient screening and social distancing in waiting rooms. During the COVID-19 pandemic additional guidelines were implemented to keep patients and dental professionals safe,” Dr Matthews said.
