Domestic violence support available 24/7

Around-the-clock support is available for South Australians who may be experiencing domestic, family or sexual violence at home during the current seven-day lockdown – and the State Government is urging the community to remain vigilant at this time.

Minister for Human Services Michelle Lensink said at-risk South Australians can call the 24/7 DV Crisis Line if they need support.

“We want South Australian women experiencing violence or abuse in their homes to know that they are supported and there is help available if they need it,” said Minister Lensink.

“All critical DV services are continuing and anyone experiencing violence at home, or is feeling threatened or unsafe, can call one of the many available DV hotlines and seek support or Triple Zero in an emergency.

“Even though we’re asking the community to stay at home during this seven-day lockdown, women and their families should know that if they are experiencing violence or abuse at home, they can leave, if they believe it is safe to do so.

“The Marshall Liberal Government is currently offering crisis, short-term motel accommodation for any South Australians who is experiencing DV in their home and wants to leave.”

Assistant Minister for Domestic and Family Violence Prevention Carolyn Power asked the community to remain vigilant at this time.

“Now, more than ever, we really urge the public to remain vigilant and if you see or hear anything out of the ordinary, report it,” said Mrs Power.

The Marshall Liberal Government also funds the 24/7 Men’s Referral Service hotline for any man who wants support about their behaviour.

“We continue to urge any man who is concerned about his behaviour or concerned partners and family members to take up the offer of support and get help to change before harm is done,” said Mrs Power.
