A man has been injured after the utility he was a passenger in rolled and landed on his foot on the state’s south coast today.
About 12.30am (Saturday 6 July 2019), a Toyota Hilux utility, being driven by a 17-year-old male drove from Thirroul to Bulli Showground.
A 17-year-old girl was in the front passenger seat and a 15-year-old girl and 19-year-old man were riding in the utility’s tray.
Police have been told while the vehicle was in the vicinity of the showground, the vehicle performed a donut manoeuvre, throwing those riding in the tray.
As the vehicle rolled, it landed on the 19-year-old man’s foot.
Emergency services attended, and the vehicle was lifted to release the 19-year-old man. He was taken to Wollongong Hospital with serious leg injuries.
There were no other reports of injury.
The 17-year-old driver returned a positive roadside breath test. He was taken to Wollongong Police Station where a subsequent breath analysis returned an alleged reading of 0.091.
His provisional driver’s licence was suspended, and he was issued a Field Court Attendance Notice for the offence of mid-range PCA. He is set to appear in court on Tuesday 5 November 2019.
Inquiries by the Lake Illawarra Crash Investigation Unit are continuing.
