Drugs charges in Bayside, QLD

Officers from the Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad have charged a man with over a dozen drug-related offences and have recovered over one million dollars following a four-month investigation in Brisbane’s Bayside.

The operation, conducted between October 2023 and February 2024, targeted the supply and distribution of dangerous drugs throughout Brisbane’s Bayside areas, including Wakerley and Gumdale.

Last week, six search warrants were executed at several Brisbane addresses, including Everton Park, Murarrie, and Wakerley, where it will be alleged that police located and seized 2.6 kilograms of heroin, 230 grams of methylamphetamine, and 150 grams of cocaine.

Officers also allegedly located various drug paraphernalia, a small firearm with ammunition, and over approximately $1.2 million dollars.

A 41-year-old Wakerley man has been charged with one count of drug trafficking, six counts of possess dangerous drugs, two counts each of supplying dangerous drugs, possessing property obtained from trafficking, and one count each of possess explosives, possess property suspected to be used in drug offence, possession of something used in a crime and unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was remanded in custody and is due to reappear at Cleveland Magistrates Court on April 4.

Officer in Charge, Capalaba Tactical Crime Squad, Senior Sergeant Warren Piket, said the investigation had showcased the tenacity of the officers involved.

“The effort of all the officers involved in this lengthy investigation has caused a major disruption to the supply and distribution of dangerous drugs in Brisbane’s bayside,” Senior Sergeant Piket said.

“This is a great opportunity also to highlight that any information provided by members of the public can help police with their investigations”.
