Duo arrested after firearm located in city, South Australia

A man and woman have been charged after police located a loaded firearm in their possession in the Adelaide CBD overnight.

Just after 8pm Tuesday 6 November police from the State Tactical Response Group were patrolling on Wakefield Street when they noticed a man acting suspiciously near a parked motorcycle and a woman seated in a grey Ford utility nearby.

Police stopped and spoke to the pair and conducted checks on the motorcycle which revealed it was bearing fake number plates.

Suspicions raised, the vigilant officers searched the ute which contained a number of tools before searching a bag being carried by the man. It will be alleged police located a loaded handgun inside, a large amount of cash and a knife. It will be further alleged a search of the woman revealed an amount of methamphetamine.

Police arrested the pair, the 34-year-old Kurralta Park man was charged with aggravated possession of a loaded class H firearm, drug trafficking, unlawful possession, possess knife in a public place and two count of breach of bail. While the 28-year-old Kurralta Park woman was charged with aggravated possession of a loaded class H firearm and drug trafficking.

Both have been refused bail and will appear in the Adelaide Magistrates Court today, Wednesday 7 November.
