Minister for Education and Youth, the Hon Jason Clare MP, announced $85 million for 200 projects to support early career researchers. The University was awarded $9.5m to fund 22 up-and-coming researchers.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Emma Johnston congratulated the recipients.
“It is fantastic to see such a large cohort of our outstanding early career researchers recognised through the ARC DECRA scheme and that we lead the nation for 2023 DECRA awards and total funding. Our early career researchers are working on projects which will generate new knowledge across the spectrum of fundamental and applied research to solve the challenges we face as a society now, and into the future.
“Our colleagues’ DECRA projects cover a wonderfully broad range of research areas from assessing climate risk for future food supply, re-igniting ‘artistic vibrancy’ in the Australian opera ecosystem, understanding philosophical progress, child wellbeing in the context of parental detention, to climate-related auditing and reporting and how these metrics are incorporated into executives’ remuneration. Early career researchers are such an important part of our research ecosystem and I am extremely proud of their success.”
