Empowering women in music

Another 90 mentees will join the program run by Australian Independent Record Labels Association (AIR) and supported through the Office for the Arts.

This is the second intake of the 4-year mentoring and training program aimed at empowering women in the Australian music industry.

The feedback from the inaugural mentees and mentors is overwhelmingly positive:

‘I think it’s a fantastic program, diverse and targeted in its approach. The team are communicative, well organised and prepared. Will definitely continue to recommend to potential participants and mentors,’—Jess, mentor from regional Victoria.

‘The assistance provided by AIR has given me so many opportunities that I would otherwise not have access to. I have gained new skills and deepened my understanding of the broader music industry which in turn, has greatly increased my self-confidence as a woman working and operating within the industry,’—Hannah, mentee from regional Tasmania.

‘I personally found the experience very rewarding and hope my mentee did too. I feel like I gave her some guidance and confidence, as she was lacking in these areas (though not lacking in skills or experience). A lack of confidence and imposter syndrome is a huge inhibitor for women in the music industry,’—Heidi, mentor from Melbourne.
