Environmental Health Officer joins Council team

Promoting safe and healthy communities will be the priority of Horsham Rural City Council’s new Environmental Health officer Jackson Hanlon.

Mr Hanlon, new to the Wimmera, started with Council this week and has been busy learning about Horsham and the surrounding municipality and preparing to get out and start meeting businesses and other stakeholders.

Mr Hanlon’s role encompasses all aspects of public health, including inspecting food businesses and investigating public health nuisances, such as noise complaints, as well as administering and enforcing environmental health legislation and assisting with Council’s Mosquito Control program.

Mayor Robyn Gulline said the role Environmental Health Officer was especially important during the pandemic.

“COVID-19 has changed the way we go about our daily lives and has taken an enormous toll on our health, our society and our economy,” she said.

“While we have been very fortunate in the Wimmera to have so far had very few cases of Coronavirus, as a Council we have an important role to the support our businesses, sporting clubs, community groups and event hosts as they look to innovate in these changing times,” Cr Gulline said.
