Mornington Peninsula Shire is serious about tackling climate change and protecting our coastline, and we know our community share our passion. We’re now recruiting community members for the brand new Community Climate Group as well as five Coastal Advisory Groups.

This is a fantastic opportunity for community members to actively contribute to shaping the future of our coastlines or finding solutions on how to address climate change issues locally.

Be part of the climate solution, join the Community Climate Group

The new group is set up to focus on solutions for right now and into the future. The group will provide input on targets and actions, localised climate change issues, priority tasks and programs based on science.

We want a diverse representation of our community and where possible, draw on the skills in the community to help drive our climate action. We need to recruit nine members in total, and are looking for community members who:

  • have skills and experience relating to climate change mitigation or adaptation
  • represent a key sector or demographic of the community, including First Nations people, young people, industry, health, agriculture, transport, education, tourism, conservation and town planning and/or community volunteer organisations.

Successful candidates will be required to meet four times per year. If you are interested in learning more or to apply, go to: mornpen.vic.gov.au/climategroup

Call for coastal guardians: join our Advisory Groups

Coastal Advisory Groups play a crucial role in advising and assisting the Shire in the use, development, planning, management, protection, and enhancement of our coastlines. As the Committee of Management for 64 km of the Mornington Peninsula’s coastline, we recognise the importance of local knowledge and community involvement.

We want a diverse representation of our community. We hope to recruit 45 members across the five groups. When assessing an EOI, we will consider the following:

  • Skills, local knowledge and relevant expertise and experience
  • Community engagement and volunteering (including membership of earlier CAGs)
  • Knowledge of relevant plans, strategies and other key guiding documents relevant to the future planning of the area
  • Other key stakeholder groups that applicants may be affiliated with
  • A spread of representation from across all coastal townships in the area
  • We are particularly keen to recruit young people, so don’t let your age hold you back – we need you on our team!

Successful candidates will be required to meet three times per year. If you are interested in learning more or to apply, go to: mornpen.vic.gov.au/cag

The climate and coastal groups operate under a Council-adopted Terms of Reference, Volunteer Policy and Code of Conduct. Applications close 29 March.
