Extending our support for Tasmanian small businesses

Peter Gutwein,Premier

Jane Howlett,Minister for Small Business

There is no greater supporter of small businesses than the Tasmanian Liberal Government.

Last year we provided the highest level of support for businesses per capita of any jurisdiction in the country and we have continued to provide high levels of support as we navigate our pathway out of the pandemic.

With many Tasmanian small businesses still experiencing difficulties and trading downturns due to interstate COVID-19 travel and border restrictions, we are pleased to announce that today we are opening our November round of the Supercharged Micro and Small Business – Border Closure Critical Support Grant.

This new second round of the program will provide grants of between $3,000 and $50,000 to eligible Tasmanian businesses.

This funding will continue to support micro and small businesses operating in the tourism, hospitality, arts and events, seafood and transport (hire car, coach tours) sectors who have been impacted by the current border closures.

Importantly, this round of the program is open both to new applicants and those who received support under the first round which ran across September and October.

The Tasmanian Government worked hard to deliver the supercharged support package for Tasmanian businesses impacted by border closures, and the first round of the program was highly successful, with over 3,400 eligible Tasmanian micro and small businesses sharing more than $42 million.

Today’s announcement will take the grants available up to around the $80 million mark. But as our Government has always said, we will continue to respond to the ongoing COVID-19 situation around the country, and will always support Tasmania’s business sector.

This comes on top of the $130 million package provided to Tasmanian businesses during the height of the pandemic last year.

The eligibility criteria will remain the same as the first round, and those applicants who have already received a grant will not be required to fill out a new application, but will only need to reconfirm their hardship status and upload supporting evidence.
