Health Minister Michael Ferguson must support
Tasmanian small businesses who have been left with huge unpaid contracts as a
result of the botched Royal Hobart Hospital rebuild.
Plumbing subcontractor AMS Hydraulics, which was
sacked by John Holland earlier this year, has now gone into liquidation owing
thousands of dollars to small Tasmanian companies like Lifters Hire in
Cambridge and C2 in Granton.
C2 contacted the Health Minister a month ago
raising concern that they were still owed more than $100,000 by AMS.
Michael Ferguson has done nothing to assist the
Tasmanian small businesses.
“This is Michael Ferguson’s project. What is he
going to do to support these small family businesses who are owed thousands of
dollars?” Deputy Labor Leader Michelle O’Byrne said.
“Does Michael Ferguson know of other businesses
that are owed money by AMS?
“The Liberals promised to support small
businesses to ensure they get more government work.
“This is another example of Liberal rhetoric not
matching reality.
“Michael Ferguson loves to claim that he “rescued”
the Royal Hobart Hospital but the fact is the project has been plagued by
mould, asbestos and concerns with contractors on his watch.
“It is now Tasmanian small businesses who are
paying an extreme price for Michael Ferguson’s mismanagement.”
