Finding non-fiction books to get your teeth into will be much easier than before thanks to an exciting change taking place across all Sunshine Coast library branches.
By the end of November, all non-fiction collections will be organised into 22 categories to make it easy to browse in your area of interest – similar to how you would search for a book in a book shop.
Community Programs portfolio councillor Jenny McKay applauded the initiative and said she hoped it would lead to a boost in people borrowing books.
“This change will make it easier to find exactly what you’re looking for. For example, the creatives and hobbyists will find all the craft books in one place, while budding chefs will be able to head straight to the food and drink section to find the recipe book they’re after,” Cr McKay said.
“Sunshine Coast residents love their books and this new arrangement will make it simpler to find the books they really want to read – hopefully encouraging more people to return to our libraries.”
Cr McKay said the improvement was an extension of a change introduced in 2017 when adult non-fiction was partially organised into six popular subject areas.
“Following this change, there has been a 5 per cent loan increase across all adult non-fiction collections – which is impressive, given there has been a global reduction in loans of public library collections, in particular adult non-fiction,” Cr McKay said.
The new arrangement will be introduced across all Sunshine Coast library branches between November 11-22.
