Further appeal after woman sexually assaulted in Woolloomooloo laneway

Detectives have released additional CCTV footage as they continue to investigate a sexual assault in Woolloomooloo last weekend.

Just after 1.30am on Sunday (27 October 2019), a 22-year-old woman left a licensed premises on Oxford Street, Surry Hills, after being separated from friends.

While waiting outside, she was approached by a man and walked with him to Turner Lane, Woolloomooloo, where police were told she was sexually assaulted.

The woman contacted a friend before presenting to Sutherland Hospital and reporting the incident.

Local police attended and spoke with the woman and detectives from Kings Cross Police Area Command commenced an investigation.

Investigators have released further vision of a man who they believe may be able to assist with inquiries.

He is described as being of Indian Sub-Continental appearance, about 170cm tall, with a thin build, and was wearing a white t-shirt, dark-coloured long pants, and spectacles.

Kings Cross Police Area Commander, Acting Superintendent Paul Callaghan, said anyone who recognises this man is urged to contact detectives.

“We treat all matters of sexual violence seriously and those that commit sexual violence need to be brought to account for their actions,” A/Supt Callaghan said.

“There is no excuse for sexual violence, and it’s time for the whole community to stand up and say it won’t be tolerated at any time.

“That’s why we are continuing to call for anyone with information or any witnesses to come forward and tell us what they know.”
