Bankstown detectives have charged a further two women as investigations continue into the alleged coordinated theft and distribution of baby formula in Sydney’s south-west.
Earlier this year, detectives from Bankstown Police Area Command received information from retailers relating to the coordinated theft and on-supply of baby formula in the local area.
The information was referred to Strike Force Polar to investigate the activities of the suspected syndicate.
As part of their inquiries, strike force detectives executed search warrants at a business at Bankstown and a home at Chester Hill.
During the searches, police seized over 250 tins of baby formula, $45,000 cash and various other health and beauty items, which are believed to be stolen.
A 45-year-old man and a 41-year-old woman were charged last month. They remain before the courts.
Following further inquiries, detectives arrested two women – aged 28 and 31 – at Bankstown Police Station about 10am yesterday (Thursday 4 June 2020).
Both women were charged with 15 counts of shoplifting and dispose property-theft serious indictable offence.
Police will allege in court that the women were involved in the coordinated theft of items from retailers across Sydney.
The younger woman was refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Friday 4 June 2020).
The older woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 29 July 2020.
Investigations under Strike Force Polar are continuing.
