Getting Hobart Bus Transit Centre moving

Jeremy Rockliff,Minister for Infrastructure

As Minister for Infrastructure I congratulate WSP Australia for being appointed to examine the feasibility of a dedicated Bus Transit Centre in the CBD.

Part of the Hobart City Deal, the Bus Transit Centre will deliver a modern transit hub that will cater to predicted growth in demand and emerging technologies over the next 30 years.

The Hobart Bus Transit Centre study will identify suitable options, a specific location and indicative costs of delivering the project.

The study will assess technical feasibility of an at-ground versus partial or wholly underground bus transit centre at lower Elizabeth Street and Franklin Square.

A broad range of factors will be considered, including passenger and driver amenities, service information and ticketing facilities, toilets and waiting areas with appropriate seating.

WSP Australia brings extensive experience in functional design of bus transit centres, including Perth’s Busport and the award-winning Christchurch Bus Interchange in New Zealand.

The final report is expected to be delivered by the end of July this year.

The Hobart Transit Centre is an important part of the Hodgman Liberal Government’s election commitments to help better manage congestion through our Greater Hobart Traffic Solution policy.
