Popular Perth rock band Methyl Ethel will embark on a worldwide publicity campaign for their new album, thanks to funding from the State Government’s Contemporary Music Fund Grant Program.
The band is the project of Western Australian producer and multi-instrumentalist Jake Webb, who received a $15,000 grant to promote the album in the Australian, North American, European and United Kingdom markets.
The funding will enable the band to engage Grandstand PR and Terrorbird Radio for the promotion, who have previously worked with international acts Arctic Monkeys, Bloc Party, Lucy Dacus and Warpaint.
The grant program is also supporting WA music manager Hayley Jane Ayres with a $19,932 grant to cover the costs of delivering the two-day mentorship program Sound States.
Sound States provides valuable networking and professional development opportunities for self-managed contemporary music artists and independent managers. It also provides paid work opportunities for the speakers and mentors.
The Contemporary Music Fund Grant Program assists WA contemporary music artists with a broad range of projects that enable them to produce and promote their work, building links nationally and internationally.

“The Contemporary Music Fund is continuing to provide much needed support to our talented local contemporary musicians and music industry professionals during this difficult time.
“These two activities indicate the diversity of projects the grant program can support, from recording costs and equipment hire, to travel, marketing campaigns and professional development and mentoring opportunities.
“These grants were distributed through the grant program’s 15k-plus category, however applications to the U-15k category (grants up to $15,000) are open year-round and I encourage our homegrown music artists to apply.”
