Grievous Bodily Harm and assault at Surfers Paradise, QLD

Police have charged a man after the grievous bodily harm of a man and assault of a woman at Surfers Paradise yesterday.

Just before midday, police were called to a unit on The Esplanade where they located a 23-year-old man in reception suffering a laceration to his face.

It will be alleged that two men and two women who were known to each other were in a unit at the complex when a verbal altercation broke out between the group.

It will be alleged that argument escalated to a physical altercation between the two men, during which a 23-year-old man was stabbed in the face with a knife causing a large laceration.

It will be further alleged that the 29-year-old man then used his hand to strike the chest of a 24-year-old woman, who was attempting to intervene.

The 23-year-old man and 24-year-old woman left the room and went down to the lobby where they were met by emergency services.

Paramedics treated the man before transporting him in a stable condition to the Gold Coast University Hospital.

Officers contained the unit block and arrested a 29-year-old Surfers Paradise man in a unit.

He has subsequently been charged with one count each of grievous bodily harm, common assault and breach of bail.

He is scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court (today) June 23.
