Hammer seized, man charged over alleged home invasion and assault – Glendale

A man has been charged after another man was allegedly assaulted with a hammer in the state’s north today.

About 7.30am today (Saturday 21 March 2026), emergency services were called to a home on Manuel Street, Glendale, following reports a man had broken into a house and assaulted the occupant.

On arrival, officers attached to Lake Macquarie Police District located a 34-year-old man with serious head injuries.

Police were told he was in the house when a 51-year-old man – known to him – broke into the house and allegedly hit him with the hammer.

The man was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to hospital in a serious condition.

A hammer was found at the scene and has been taken to be forensically examined.

A crime scene was established, and police commenced an investigation into the incident.

A short time later, police arrested a 51-year-old man on Clare Street, Glendale, before he was taken to Toronto Police Station.

The man was charged with aggravated break and enter and commit serious indictable offence-people there and reckless wounding (DV).

He was refused bail to appear before Bail Division Court tomorrow (Sunday 22 March 2026).
