The City of Gold Coast is monitoring conditions closely over the next 24 hours with heavy rainfall forecast for coastal areas into the evening and overnight.

The Gold Coast’s catchments are saturated and may react quickly to heavy rainfall and as such flash flooding may result.

There is also the potential for hazardous surf conditions.

As such, the Local Disaster Coordination Centre has moved to stand up to monitor conditions.

Staff and heavy machinery are available to assist if required.

Lifeguards are monitoring beach conditions closely and at this stage beaches remain open

We are asking Gold Coasters to keep informed and monitor the latest from the Bureau of Meteorology.

Stay up to date on the City’s Disaster Dashboard citygc.au/DisasterDashboard.

Never drive walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded forget it.

Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.

Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.

Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.

For flood assistance contact the SES on 132 500 in a life threatening emergency call triple zero (000).
