Honour our fallen colleagues for National Police Remembrance Day

In commemoration of National Police Remembrance Day, police across Queensland will pause on Friday September 27, to pay tribute to their fallen colleagues.

National Police Remembrance Day is held every year to honour those who have lost their lives and ensure the magnitude of their sacrifice is never forgotten.

In services across the state, police will acknowledge the importance of the day which is perhaps one of the most significant events on the policing calendar.

Police invite you to join them in marking the special occasion by joining them as they march for remembrance.

Details of ceremonies in Brisbane:

Vigil: Queensland Police Memorial, Brisbane City Botanic Gardens on Thursday, September 26 at 7pm

March: From Queens Garden to the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens on Friday, September 27 at 9am

Service: Queensland Police Memorial, Brisbane City Botanic Gardens on Friday, September 27 at 10am

There will be some traffic closures and possibly some closures experienced in the Brisbane CBD due to the march.

Traffic closures include:

  • 8am: George Street closed between Charlotte Street and Elizabeth Street
  • 8.50am: Elizabeth Street reduced to two lanes between William Street and George Street
  • 9am: George Street closed between Elizabeth Street and Alice Street with surrounding roads affected including Charlotte Street, Mary Street, Margaret Street and Alice Street
  • 9.20am: Stop-go closures will be in place as the march approaches Ann Street
  • These should all be reopened by 10am
  • 9.45am – 11.15am: George Street will experience a full lane clsoure from Alice Street in front of parliament house.
