Mother of four and Aitken Ward Councillor, Cr Carly Moore will lead Hume City for the next 12 months after being elected Mayor by her fellow councillors at Council’s Statutory Meeting tonight, Wednesday 3 November.
The life-long resident of Hume thanked and paid tribute to outgoing Mayor Cr Haweil and her family, including husband Mat and four children Lachy, Hudson, Maddy and Camryn.
Cr Moore’s connection to the Hume community is strong, stretching back to when her grandparents moved to Coolaroo and Broadmeadows in the 1960s.
Craigieburn has been home to the small business owner her entire life, with 3064 being the place she attended school, got her first job, built her first home and now, where her four children are being raised.
These deep community roots give Cr Moore a valuable insight into Hume; its values, vision, needs and growing pains.
Returning for her third term as Mayor, Cr Moore will focus on supporting the community to rebuild after lockdown and adjust to a new way of living with COVID-19.
In her Mayoral acceptance speech, Cr Moore acknowledged the unequal burden of loss and suffering faced by the Hume community throughout the pandemic and vowed to advocate and champion the needs of the community to ensure Hume has an equal opportunity to rebuild and recover.
Cr Moore will oversee a $334 million investment to respond to the impacts of COVID-19 and meet the growing demands for a variety of day-to-day services.
Cr Moore also acknowledged that stimulating the local economy and creating jobs will be a key focus of Hume’s recovery efforts.
During her mayorship, Council will embark on the single biggest infrastructure program in Hume’s history, with an investment of $485 million across more than 500 capital works projects to be delivered.
Cr Moore will lead the new Council Plan and Community Vision, which were both adopted at the previous Council meeting.
These strategies will help Council continue to provide a liveable and prosperous city and prepare Hume City for the opportunities that the future will bring.
Cr Sam Misho was elected Deputy Mayor, who was first elected in 2020 representing Meadow Valley ward.
