Charles Darwin University (CDU) and Inspired NT is inspiring young Territorians to persue careers in science, technology and innovation as part of a new interactive and educational event, Innovation Playground.
The event is designed to inspire the pursuit of further STEAM education among students and the community and to equip the emerging workforce with tomorrow’s skill sets through targeted workshops, events and demonstrations.
Territory school children will have the opportunity to explore a range of different areas including robotics, drones, space, glowing science, agri-tech, eSports, coding, renewables and sport science.
Charles Darwin University Science Outreach Manager Dr Erica Garcia said STEAM knowledge and skills are key to jobs of the future and opens the door to new industries.
“Events such as the Innovation Playground are the perfect environment to showcase the importance of science and technology in the Northern Territory,” Dr Garcia said.
“We need local innovators to tackle our unique Territory challenges and the Innovation Playground shows how STEAM skills can lead to expanded opportunities for young Territorians.”
As a part of the event CDU Lecturer in Education (Mathematics) Dr Farha Sattar will be doing a drone’s workshop. Lecturer – Engineering Mathematics Dr David Ompong and post grads will be doing robotic arm workshop and CDU PHD student Amy Kirke from the Research Institute for the Environment and Livelihoods (RIEL) will be doing a fisheries workshop.
CDU Lecturer – Exercise and Sport Science Jim Lee will also have a STEMfit booth on the day.
