Keeping community safe with works ongoing at Cam River Bridge

Jeremy Rockliff, Premier

The team on the ground continue to do everything possible to get the Cam River Bridge fully reopened as soon as possible, while ensuring community safety.

I know this has been very frustrating to the community, and I thank everyone for their ongoing patience as the team works to get the bridge fully reopened and keep everybody safe.

The Government is taking proactive steps to ensure the continued delivery of emergency care services in the region.

Our emergency services are working closely with RoadsTas to ensure ambulances and other emergency vehicles have priority access to the bridge during this period.

Traffic controllers are located on site to facilitate access for emergency vehicles in advance, while a hard shoulder area also allows space for emergency vehicles if emergency services require immediate access.

As part of internal contingency planning, Ambulance Tasmania (AT) has established additional resources in the area, west of the bridge.

AT has also pre-positioned a helicopter in Launceston (our Northern dedicated aero-support site) during daylight hours, which will be reviewed daily.

I would like to assure residents that these plans are in place as a precaution to ensure we can continue meeting the community’s emergency care needs.

AT has so far experienced minimal impacts in light of the construction work and health services in the north west are continuing uninterrupted.

People attending planned care, such as outpatient appointments, at the North West Regional Hospital should allow additional travel time in the coming days.

Expectant mothers who live west of Cam River will also be contacted by their maternity team to discuss their care plans and are welcome to contact the maternity service if they would like to discuss further.

If you need emergency medical assistance, call Triple Zero (000) immediately or go to the nearest Emergency Department.
