Kent Town set for economic growth

Kent Town is set to benefit from a new strategy for economic growth, which is open for consultation from today, Monday 16 September.

Currently home to 828 businesses, Kent Town presents huge employment potential for a suburb with an area of just over half a square kilometre. The City of Norwood Payneham & St Peters will focus its efforts on growing the area’s economy, with a strategy directed at three key themes: to attract investment, support growth and create prosperity.

Mayor Robert Bria said: “Through this strategy, we’re setting the building blocks of sustainable long-term growth in the area. Kent Town’s thriving business economy makes it ta much sought after place to work. In addition, its highly accessible location on the edge of Adelaide CBD and proximity to South Australia’s wine regions and beaches also make it a great place to live.”

The strategy focuses on the cultural and creative industries which are located in Kent Town, building on the area’s reputation for heading up the creative industries sector in South Australia, with over 70 businesses in the small suburb falling into this category.

“Kent Town is an area rich in talent when it comes to creative industries,” said Mayor Bria. “It’s not only evident through the businesses that already call Kent Town home, but also through the many new businesses that are being attracted to Kent Town”.

Initiatives proposed in the strategy include growing a welcoming and diverse evening economy in the area, advocating for better public transport links and planning for the integration of new technologies.

Consultation on the draft Kent Town Economic Growth Strategy closes on Friday 11 October. To have your say on the strategy, please visit www.npsp.sa.gov.au/consultation
