Labor plays for time in curfew cover-up

Liberal Party Victoria

The Andrews Labor Government is playing for more time to cover-up its COVID-19 curfew rules and has fought the release of documents relied upon by the Chief Health Officer in deciding to implement last year’s curfew.

More than 13 months have elapsed since the Department of Health received the Freedom of Information (FOI) request, yet lawyers for the government have sought another extension to delay the release of these secret curfew documents.

The request sought:”All documents involved with or that informed the decision by the State Government to impose a curfew, commencing 8pm on Sunday, 2 August 2020″.

The government was yet again at the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (VCAT) this morning where it absurdly argued it needs even more time before it will be able to release the requested documents, in effect, that 13 months is not enough when FOI requests are required by statute to be processed in one month.

The Liberal Nationals call on Labor to release the public health advice behind every decision and every restriction, starting with the curfew.

Victorians deserve to know the truth behind these matters, not endless delays and cover-ups. Only a Liberal Nationals Government will deliver accountability and transparency.

As stated by Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, David Davis:

“This is a cover-up, pure and simple.

“The 6.7 million Victorians, 5.2 million Melburnians, who were locked down as a result of Labor’s curfew deserve to see all the reasons and assessments behind the decision.

“Victorians are sick of the lies and coverups and know it’s time for a change in government. A Liberal Nationals Government will deliver accountability and transparency.”
