Electrification is emerging as a global focus following London Climate Action Week (LCAW). It is a topic in the spotlight as countries look for ways to manage global energy challenges.
Nations are increasingly looking to electrification to:
- support energy security
- strengthen economies
- cut emissions
- help protect households and businesses from shocks.
Australia will work with Türkiye and the Pacific to advance this work through COP31.
More than 75,000 people joined over 1,300 events at LCAW. Governments, businesses and community shared ideas and solutions to speed up climate action. These discussions will help inform our agenda for COP31.
During LCAW, key discussions focused on how to:
- expand clean electricity
- modernise grids
- scale energy storage.
Australia joined key LCAW events that supported this priority:
- IEA High Level Dialogue – where leaders discussed how to speed up clean energy and electrification.
- Electrify Now – where Australia joined Türkiye and others to launch this global campaign.
COP31 Youth Climate Champion Sally Higgins also attended LCAW. She built new partnerships and gathered ideas for her 2026-2027 work plan. She also highlighted the important role young people already play in climate solutions.
LCAW was also a chance to highlight Pacific priorities. The Pacific COP31 Envoys highlighted the challenges Pacific communities face. They also helped bring their perspectives into the conversation.
Australia and Fiji hosted a COP31 Pacific Partnership Reception at Australia House. The event showcased the COP31 Australia-Pacific partnership, including the Pacific Pre-COP. Pacific countries are already living with serious climate impacts. They are leading with practical, community driven solutions. They also bring important perspectives on adaptation, resilience and implementation. Their experience and leadership will continue to guide COP31 planning.
COP31 is the world’s largest climate summit. Australia will lead the negotiations at the summit. This is the process where countries work through conversations on targets, rules, and the ambition needed to drive global change.
The road to COP31 is a chance to build momentum on shared goals like clean energy, electrification and energy security. It is also a chance to strengthen partnerships across the Pacific and beyond. These efforts help deliver more reliable, affordable and resilient energy for all.
