Man and woman arrested as part of investigation into Casey shooting

Armed Crime Squad detectives, with the assistance of specialist police, arrested a man and woman today in Pakenham as part of their investigation into a shooting in the Casey area last year.

Police attended Casey Hospital after a 41-year-old man attended with a gunshot wound about 12.30am on 31 July 2019.

He was treated for a non-life-threatening injury to the upper body.

Today’s arrests took place at a private residential premises on Lakeside Boulevard around 8.15am where the offenders were taken into custody without any resistance.

During a search of the premises a modified firearm was located and has been seized.

A 42-year-old Pakenham man has been charged with trafficking drug of dependence, prohibited person possess firearm, possess ammunition and several driving offences.

A 34-year-old Pakenham woman has been charged with traffic commercial quantity of drug of dependence.

Detectives are still working to establish the exact circumstances surrounding the shooting, including what the motivation may have been.

The incident appeared targeted, and investigators believe it may have occurred in the Casey area, near the intersection of Shrives Road and Pound Road in the late evening on 30 July.

The investigation into the shooting remains ongoing.
