Man charged with 13 offences as part of Operation Regional Mongoose – Illawarra

A man will face court today, after being charged with 13 offences in the State’s Illawarra.

About 2.30am on Tuesday 18 June 2024, police were called to a home in Wentworth Street, Shellharbour, following reports of a break and enter.

Police will allege a teenage male has broken into the home, stole the car keys, before taking a Subaru Forester from the driveway. Police will also allege he used that vehicle to travel to Kiama Downs and attempt to break into further vehicles.

Following inquiries, about 8am yesterday (Tuesday 2 July 2024), officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended a home in Byamee Street, Dapto.

An 18-year-old male was arrested and taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station.

He was charged with 13 offences;

– Take and drive conveyance without consent of owner (3 counts)

– Aggravated break and enter (2 counts)

– Enter building/land with intent to commit indictable offence

– Face blackened/disguised with intent to commit indictable offence

– Larceny (3 counts)

– Enter vehicle without consent of owner

– Participate criminal group contribute criminal activity.

He was refused bail to appear before Wollongong Local Court today (Wednesday 3 July 2024)

Police will also allege the man was involved in the aggravated break and enter and theft of two vehicles from Mount Kembla in May 2024.
