The Matagarup Bridge climb officially opened to the public today, a major step towards activating the Perth Stadium Precinct.
Work is continuing with the Burswood Park Board to offer other family fun activities and encourage more people to the Stadium precinct.
Matagarup Zip+Climb has started planning a second stage of activities, which includes an all-ages climbing frame, an 18-hole miniature golf course and a licenced cafe located near the zip-line landing platform.
The climbing frame is likely to consist of dozens of high ropes activities, with challenges and obstacles to accommodate up to 150 people. Similar to the climb, patrons will be fitted in harnesses, which will be tethered onto the 20-metre high aerial park.
The Matagarup Bridge climb experience was only made possible by the McGowan Government returning the bridge construction to Western Australia and updating the bridge design.
The adventure experience takes around 90 minutes and includes a pre-safety briefing, full body harness and equipment fitting before participants commence the climb.
The bridge climb itself is a fully-guided 314-step trek at a steep 45-degree angle up the bridge’s main arch, ascending around 70 metres above the Swan River to the open-air ‘sky view’ deck – Perth’s first glass bottom platform.
Climbers have around 15 minutes on the fully-enclosed platform to take in the 360 degree panoramic views of Perth, Burswood and the city surrounds.

“Having climbed the bridge myself recently, I can say that this experience is both challenging and exhilarating and I am sure it will be a very popular attraction for both locals and tourists.
“I know lots of people have been waiting eagerly for this since we first announced the activities project in 2018 and I’m very pleased to be able to cut the ribbon ahead of the first public tour group today.
“I am looking forward to having a go on the zip-line once it’s up and running in a few weeks’ time and I’m sure kids will love the all ages climbing frame when it opens next summer.”
