Minister introduces new national peak body

From the Hon David Littleproud MP, Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia

It gives me great pleasure to introduce Cattle Australia, the proposed national peak body for the grass-fed cattle industry, providing a visible, unified, and influential voice for producers.

Cattle Australia is the result of industry collaboration over the past 12 months to respond to challenges and futureproof the grass-fed cattle industry. Cattle Australia’s purpose is an important one – to represent the interests of all Australian cattle producers – as well as unite levy payers, engage with cattle producers and industry stakeholders, advocate on all matters important to the cattle industry, lead and direct policy development and its implementation and protect the profitability, competitiveness, and future of the cattle industry.

It is important to have good representation for your industry to advocate for priorities and investment in areas that will impact you; otherwise who will tell the Minister for Agriculture and walk the halls of Parliament House in Canberra? A strong industry voice will help ensure government is delivering for you – such as protecting your export markets and opening new ones, ensuring the levy you pay is well spent to deliver outcomes relevant for you and your business, protecting our borders against pests and diseases and creating new income streams such as being paid to protect or enhance your native vegetation.

The Australian beef industry is worth more than $15 billion to the Australian economy with over 45,000 producers. You are important to this government, and we want you to continue to succeed. I can’t underestimate the importance of having a single voice that represents your views.

As a cattle producer, you now have the chance to help shape the future of Cattle Australia and the grass-fed cattle industry by sharing your views on Cattle Australia’s national priorities. I encourage all cattle producers and interested parties to take this opportunity to provide feedback on what Cattle Australia should focus on and be a part of building the industry’s new peak body. I also ask you to consider supporting them through their establishment and consider contributing to their membership, so they have a sustainable funding source going forward.
