MOZZIES

Have you noticed a lot of mozzies around lately? Standing water left behind by floods and heavy rains is an ideal breeding ground for the pesky insects.

Mosquitoes aren’t just a nuisance, they also have the potential to affect your health. Here’s some tips to avoid getting bitten:

  • Wear long, loose clothing;
  • Apply mosquito repellent to exposed skin;
  • Be aware of peak risk times for mozzie bites;
  • Limit number of places for mozzies to breed by emptying buckets or other containers around your home that hold water.

MOULD CLEAN UP

It may just look like a stain or some small spots – but mould is much more than an unsightly discolouration.

Mould is a health hazard and often found in homes after heavy rain or flooding has prevented items and structures from drying properly.

Most common moulds are black, green or white, but no matter what colour, all moulds have the potential to cause health problems.

Here are a few tips if you decide to remove mould yourself:

  • Open windows and doors where possible;
  • Wear rubber gloves, eye protection, suitable shoes and a face mask before cleaning;
  • To clean mouldy surfaces, use mild detergent or vinegar mixed with water (4-parts vinegar to 1-part water);
  • Carpet may need to be professionally cleaned or replaced.
