More Officers Riding Rails

The Queensland Police Service (QPS) and Queensland Rail (QR) are excited to announce an agreement that will see an additional 16 officers joining Railway Squad over the next four financial years.

Railway Squad officers are police officers with specialist training stationed around the railway network.

These officers will join the 86 officers already providing an invaluable presence on Queensland’s railways that now also include officers on trail bikes patrolling the rail corridors.

They work closely with QR Authorised Officers, Security Monitoring Teams and Private Security Officers to ensure our rail network is a safe place and that commuters and staff feel safe and secure.

As part of this commitment to public safety, the Railway Squad, along with QR, undertook 716 joint operations last financial year, across the South-East Queensland Network.

Officers issued 869 penalty infringement notices and 579 warning notices for anti-social and dangerous behaviour during this time.

This Rail Safety Week (August 7 – 13), our Railway Squad as always will be riding the rails, ensuring public safety and enforcing penalties, including infringement notices and court appearances for anti-social behaviour.

This commitment to safety now includes 11 Queensland Rail Authorised Officer canine teams patrolling the station and security officers patrolling Guardian Trains at night. There are more than 12,000 CCTV cameras around the network helping to keep patrons safe and provide evidence of anti-social behaviour.
