More positive jobs data for Tasmania

Michael Ferguson,Minister for Finance

With Tasmania now reopened to the world, the latest ABS payroll jobs data for November has confirmed that businesses are confident and hiring, with more Tasmanians getting into jobs.

The data shows that jobs have increased by 0.9 per cent in the month to 27 November – the second highest growing State in the country.

Jobs also grew 0.6 per cent in the last two weeks of November: double the national growth over the same period and the second-highest growth rate in the nation.

Additionally, job vacancy data released today by the National Skills Commission demonstrates that businesses are looking to hire – with job vacancies in November 78.6 per cent higher than pre-COVID levels, which is the highest growth rate in the country. This means, in short, there are jobs available and I encourage people to get online and have a look.

This is very positive news and once again reflects the confidence businesses have in our nation-leading economy and in the direction of our State as we look to the future with optimism.

It follows recent news that a near-record 261,500 Tasmanians are employed, and that Tasmania’s economy grew the fastest in the nation in the September 2021 quarter.

It demonstrates that our clear plan to support jobs and our economy throughout the pandemic is working and with our borders now reopen we will continue to do all we can to keep this momentum going.
