Today, the Australian Research Council (ARC) Chief Executive Officer, Judi Zielke PSM, is pleased to announce more than $26 million of funding for 50 research projects to be undertaken as part of the ARC’s Linkage Projects scheme 2023 Round 1.
“The Linkage Projects scheme supports research projects which instigate or develop enduring strategic research partnerships,” Ms Zielke said.
“The Linkage Program promotes national and international research partnerships between higher education institutions and other parts of the research innovation system, and in this round, I’m pleased to say that 128 unique organisations are partnering on world-class research projects.”
“By supporting these partnerships, the ARC encourages the transfer of skills, knowledge and ideas between researchers and partner organisations, and the intergenerational knowledge and skills transmission among researchers that is crucial to building Australia’s research capability,” said Ms Zielke.
The partner organisations include national and international companies; national and international non-profit organisations; federal, state and local government organisations and international higher education organisations.
The awarded ARC Linkage Projects include:
University of Canberra ($396,174): collaborating with 4 partner organisations, to generate new knowledge by showing the extent to which workers who hold creative qualifications contribute across the workforce and society, and their contribution to the wider Australian economy.
University of Wollongong ($445,009): collaborating with 2 partner organisations, to improve security measures for unmanned aerial vehicles, such as drones, against adversarial machine learning attacks and to develop effective countermeasures. This project aligns with the Australian Government’s strategy of promoting and protecting critical and emerging technologies.
University of the Sunshine Coast ($798,460): collaborating with 8 partner organisations, to develop technology to produce innovative solar-powered Bluetooth koala ear tags paired to a smartphone application and a digital platform to enable the public to participate in koala conservation.
University of Sydney ($197,567): partnering with 1 partner organisation, to investigate the impacts of immigration detention in the lives of people who were detained as children, to set an evidence-based international benchmark for research in this area, and to assist Australia to meet its international obligations under the Convention on the Rights of the Child.
