Road Safety Minister Paul Papalia today announced a series of event grants to encourage local communities to get involved and champion road safety when Western Australia hosts National Road Safety Week 2023.
The Road Safety Commission and RAC have partnered to provide $90,000 in funding for road safety events anywhere in WA between 14 to 21 May.
Local governments, schools, community groups, clubs and other not-for-profit organisations can apply for up to $5,000 to host an event promoting one of the seven daily road safety themes throughout the week. Each of the themes highlights the impact of road trauma and ways to reduce it.
Grants are also available to shine a light on road safety by lighting up local landmarks in yellow or displaying road safety messages.
Last year over 60 landmarks, big and small, all over the State shone bright during National Road Safety Week to recognise people killed, seriously injured and affected by road trauma on our roads every year.

“National Road Safety Week always provides a big opportunity to educate everyone about how to make our roads safer. The fact that WA is hosting it next year in 2023, means the opportunity to help save lives will be bigger than ever. This is an important event.
“We have a full program planned to reach people in workplaces, schools and their local community and inspire them to make small changes that can make a big difference in saving lives on our roads.
“These event grants are a great way for local communities, schools, and not-for-profit organisations to get involved and promote road safety at the grass roots level.
“Everyone plays a role in making our roads safer, but I am particularly focused on engaging young people and people in regional WA.
“With more than 60 per cent of the deaths on our roads occurring on regional roads, I strongly encourage community groups in our regions to apply for a grant and get involved.
