The Royal Australian Navy’s HMAS Diamantina (II) is proud to support the 186th Royal Hobart Regatta. The minehunter vessel arrived in Hobart on 9 February ahead of the iconic three-day event.
Commander of the Australian Fleet, Rear Admiral Christopher Smith, CSM, RAN, said the HMAS Diamantina’s crew were looking forward to visiting Hobart and participating in the event.
“Our Navy people are a significant part of the Tasmanian community. Our officers and sailors are excited to be part of this event and demonstrate Navy’s connection with the people of Hobart. It’s also an incredible opportunity for the crew to showcase one of the Navy’s most sophisticated vessels,” Rear Admiral Smith said.
“Hobart has a long and proud military history, and we look forward to again supporting this great event.”
Commanding Officer of HMAS Diamantina, Lieutenant Commander Georgina Rae-Martin, said she was excited to visit Tasmania with Diamantina for the first time.
“It’s an honour to be the commanding officer of the flagship for this year’s Regatta, the crew and I are energised to engage with the Tasmanian community,” Lieutenant Commander Rae-Martin said.
“With three of my crew having joined the Navy from Tasmania, it’s an even more exciting time to be here. They are looking forward to visiting their home state.”
This year Diamantina will berth at Princes Wharf No. 1 on 9 February before proceeding to anchor in the River Derwent to provide a majestic backdrop for the Regatta on Sunday.
Ship’s Company will support activities ashore, as well as afloat, including ship tours, sporting events and an official reception.
