New era for National Capital Authority

The Australian Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Karen Doran as the new Chief Executive of the National Capital Authority (NCA).

Following a merit-based selection process, Ms Doran has been appointed for a five-year term, commencing on 2 April 2024.

Ms Doran brings extensive experience in public sector leadership roles – most recently serving as the acting Director-General, Transport Canberra and City Services, and acting Chief Project Officer at Major Projects Canberra.

After commencing her career in the private sector, Ms Doran has worked across a variety of Directorates in the ACT Government, including in Treasury, Land/Economic Development, Health and Justice and Community Safety.

Her appointment heralds a new era for the NCA and the Australian Capital Territory (ACT), with Ms Doran’s broad expertise in public sector governance to bring a fresh approach to the NCA’s critical role as trustee of our nation’s capital.

The appointment of Ms Doran demonstrates the Australian Government’s commitment to the continued enhancement of our nation’s capital, and continues the Government’s record of appointing highly qualified and capable women to senior public sector positions.

The Chief Executive of the NCA is a full-time position that holds significant responsibility for developing and maintaining the nation’s capital for future generations of Australians.

The Chief Executive, along with the Chair and three additional members – make up the NCA Board, all of whom are appointed by the Governor-General on advice from the Australian Government.
