New Exhibition Rapid Eye Movement

Wyndham Art Gallery is excited to announce its latest exhibition – Rapid Eye Movement – which is now open.

The Rapid Eye Movement exhibition is guest curated by Timmah Ball and Raina Peterson as part of our Midsumma festival program. Midsumma is Australia’s premier queer arts program, presenting a diverse mix of LGBTQIA+ artists, performers, communities and audiences.

The exhibition features visually captivating video works and new works from a range of artists including Ruth Nyaruot Ruach, Naretha Williams, Manisha Anjali, Forest Vicky Kapo, Karen Casey, Devika Bilimoria and Dani Reynolds.

This free exhibition explores the concepts and thoughts of what happens when we close our eyes and our subconscious dream state takes over.

Wyndham City’s Creative City portfolio holder Cr Marcel Mahfoud said: “Wyndham City is proud to be hosting this thought-provoking and progressive exhibition.”

“The Wyndham Art Gallery is open seven days a week – so in your waking hours make the time to visit the Gallery and see the mesmerizing art works on display.”

The exhibition explores the five different phases our brains move during sleep. One of these is rapid eye movement (REM) where our eyes move quickly in various directions. It is here where most dreams occur, influencing our memory and mood.

Rapid Eye Movement delves into the idea of how people imagine, and live through time, space and their bodies when asleep.

Sleep takes on a new meaning in this exhibition and shapes our consciousness, movement, and social interactions.

Rapid Eye Movement runs from 20 January to 13 March 2022 from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 11am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday. (Covid safe protocols apply)
