New general manager to lead Biosecurity Tasmania

The Tasmanian Government is pleased to announce the appointment of Rae Burrows as the new General Manager of Biosecurity Tasmania.

Ms Burrows takes over from former General Manager Dr Lloyd Klumpp who retired last year after a decade in the role.

Ms Burrows brings a wealth of experience in biosecurity and fisheries management to the role and has acted in the position for almost a year where she has ably led Biosecurity Tasmania in the ongoing COVID-19 border restrictions response.

Ms Burrows has developed and led key biosecurity policies and programs including the operational delivery of Biosecurity Tasmania’s border biosecurity management, animal health and welfare, product integrity, food safety and traceability and invasive species management.

These activities are designed to protect Tasmania from the incursion of exotic pests and diseases, maximise safe food production and humane livestock management to ensure Tasmania’s reputation and competitive advantage in food and tourism markets is maintained.

Ms Burrows is also the Chair of the Tasmanian Dairy Industry Authority (TDIA).
