New West Gippsland Hospital to deliver modern healthcare for locals

Liberal Party Victoria

Families in Warragul and West Gippsland will receive the health services they deserve under the Liberals and Nationals’ plan to fix Victoria’s healthcare crisis.

Despite longstanding calls to deliver an upgraded or new hospital for West Gippsland, the Andrews Labor Government has failed to guarantee the funding for this much needed new hospital facility.

That’s why a Matthew Guy Liberals and Nationals Government will provide $400 million toward building a new hospital in Warragul.

The existing West Gippsland Hospital is an outdated facility that is no longer fit for purpose to meet the needs of a growing West Gippsland community.

Leader of the Opposition, Matthew Guy, said the investment would help fix the ongoing healthcare crisis across Victoria.

“Years of neglect and underinvestment in regional healthcare has resulted in a system in crisis which is not delivering for local communities,” Mr Guy said.

“The current hospital simply cannot cope with the massive increase in demand and rapid population growth in the area.

“Only the Liberals and Nationals will deliver the West Gippsland community the new hospital that it deserves.”

This new hospital is part of the Liberals and Nationals’ plan to fix Victoria’s health crisis, which includes a new hospital in Melton and Mildura, as well as a new Infectious Diseases Response Centre so we can treat the sick without locking up the healthy.

Shadow Minister for Health, Georgie Crozier, saidLabor’s failure to properly invest in our health system continues to hold the state back from recovering and rebuilding.

“Victorians deserve so much better than an arrogant Labor Government that blames others for the crisis it has created,” Ms Crozier said.

“Building a new hospital in Warragul will ensure that the people of West Gippsland will get the quality healthcare they deserve, close to home when they need it.”

Member for Narracan, Gary Blackwood, said the existing West Gippsland Hospital was a patchwork of extensions and renovations.

“The Liberals and Nationals will build a new hospital facility and make sure the demands and needs of patients and the local community are met,” Mr Blackwood said.

“The current hospital is well beyond it’s intended lifespan and a new modern facility will deliver not only the services patients expect, but the facilities our healthcare workers deserve.”

Liberal Candidate forNarracan, Wayne Farnham, said a new hospital recognised the needs of the local community.

“A new West Gippsland Hospital has been the number one project consistently raised with me since I was preselected as the Liberal Candidate forNarracan,” Mr Farnham said.

“Matthew Guy and the Liberals and Nationals have listened to the community and we will deliver this essential infrastructure for our region.”
