As part of the Lennox Village Vision project, Ballina Shire Council is continuing rejuvenation works in surrounding areas of the Lennox Head town centre.
These works will be completed in three stages, starting with Stage 6 at the Byron and Ballina Street intersection, which will commence on Wednesday 26 April 2023.
Stage 6 works will include road and drainage upgrades, new paving, and landscaping. This will take nine weeks and will require a full closure of the intersection for six of these weeks to ensure works are completed as quickly as possible.
During construction, the following traffic changes will be in place:
- The Byron and Ballina Street intersection will be closed to all traffic in both directions for the first six weeks.
- Northbound and southbound motorists on Ballina Street will detour via Park Lane.
- Motorists will be able to enter and exit Ballina Street via Park Lane and The Coast Road. A U-turn bay will be available on Ballina Street.
- Access to businesses on Byron Street between Park Lane and Ballina Street will be maintained, however at times access may be changed or unavailable for short periods.
- Motorists will need to use alternative parking on either side of the construction zone.
- Pedestrian access will be maintained, however at times there may be pedestrian detours around construction zones.
- Water outages will be required. Impacted businesses will be advised before outages occur.
- The southbound bus stop on Ballina Street, located at Lennox Park, will be relocated to near Lex Thai, opposite the northbound bus stop.
Once complete, the road paving will enhance the northern gateway into the village and slow traffic, making it safer for pedestrians to cross Ballina Street.
Following completion of Stage 6, work will focus on Stage 5 at the Ballina and Park Lane intersection, which is expected to commence 17 July 2023. This will require closure of the intersection with detours. Further information on Stage 5 and the foreshore works in Stage 7 will be available closer to this time.
