No end in sight for Metro’s service cuts 15 January 2024

News today that Metro Tasmania is still “a way off” from returning to full service after its “temporary adjustment” saw 180 routes pulled from the schedule indefinitely is disappointing, but not surprising.

A Metro spokesperson was quoted in today’s Mercury saying the temporary service adjustment “continues as planned”.

The government needs to stop hiding behind tricky language – without a specified end date or a plan to resume full services, the temporary service adjustment is just another name for a permanent service cut.

Meanwhile, massive issues still exist with Metro’s workplace culture, and the bus mechanics who service the Metro fleet are still being underpaid.

Labor will continue to support the workers and the community until the problems at Metro are resolved and the service is back running as a service Tasmanians can truly rely on.

Liberal governments have a bad habit of running services into the ground and either cutting them or privatising them.

After 10 years under the Liberal Government Metro services are getting worse and Tasmanians aren’t getting the public transport they need to get to work, school or participate in the community.
