North West Queenslanders experience the future of transport with ZOE2

Mount Isa community members are this week participating in hands-on, on-road demonstrations of the Department of Transport and Main Roads’ Level 4 connected and automated research prototype vehicle, ZOE2, as part of a pilot program being delivered by TMR, QUT, iMOVE Australia and the Motor Accident Insurance Commission.

The demonstrations offer a unique opportunity for individuals to experience firsthand the capabilities, benefits, and limitations of this cutting-edge technology.

The on-road demonstrations are offered free of charge to members of the community who register in advance. To secure spot during the demonstration week, visit https://tinyurl.com/ZOE2MtIsa. Sessions will be conducted between 9am and 5pm from Monday, July 10, to Friday, July 14, 2023.

By participating in these demonstrations, up to 100 community members will have the opportunity to witness the remarkable capabilities of ZOE2, a Level 4 CAV (cooperative and automated vehicle).

This revolutionary vehicle is equipped with advanced connectivity and automation features, showcasing the future of transport.

The Mount Isa demonstration is the first time participants will be able to see firsthand as the vehicle navigates itself through traffic lights, merges with other traffic and avoids obstacles.

Professor Sebastien Glaser, QUT Professor in Intelligent Transportation Systems, said the ZOE2 visit was showcasing the immense potential of automated systems.

“Accelerating towards the future, our Mount Isa automated vehicle demonstration brings cutting-edge technology to a regional area, showcasing the safe integration and immense potential of automated systems while engaging and inspiring the local community,” Professor Glaser said.

The CHAD Pilot is one of the three pilots under the Cooperative and Automated Vehicle Initiative (CAVI). This initiative strives to ensure the safety, mobility, and environmental benefits of emerging vehicle technologies are fully realised on Queensland roads.
