A man will appear in court today, charged after a pursuit with police in the state’s south yesterday.
At 8.30am (Wednesday 19 January 2022), officers from Lake Illawarra Police District attempted to stop a Mitsubishi Magna on Farmborough Road, Farmborough Heights.
The driver allegedly accelerated away, and a pursuit was initiated before being terminated due to safety concerns.
Shortly after, the Mitsubishi reportedly collided with a Toyota Hiace van at the intersection of the Princess Highway and Victoria Street, Unanderra.
About 8.45am, a second pursuit was initiated with the Mitsubishi on the Princess Highway before it was terminated again due to safety concerns.
The vehicle was last seen travelling towards Dapto before it was located abandoned on Kanahooka Road, Kanahooka.
Upon searching the Mitsubishi, police allegedly located an electronic stun device, mobile phones and cannabis.
As part of inquiries, police were told the male driver and a female passenger stopped a passing Mitsubishi Lancer, driven by a 21-year-old woman, and instructed her to drive take them to an address on Balarang Place, Koonawarra.
Officers attached to Lake Illawarra Police District attended and with the assistance of the Dog Unit and PolAir, a 25-year-old woman was arrested at a nearby home.
A 27-year-old man was located hiding in a separate home and also arrested.
Both were taken to Lake Illawarra Police Station, where the woman was later released, pending further inquiries.
The man was charged with possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously, drive motor vehicle during disqualification period, negligent driving (no death or grievous bodily harm), and resist officer in execution of duty.
The Mangerton man was refused bail to appear in Wollongong Local Court today (Thursday 20 January 2022).
The 21-year-old driver was not injured.
