NSW police charge man after teen assaulted on bus at Bankstown

Police have charged a man after a teenage girl was assaulted on a bus between Bankstown and South Strathfield earlier this week.

About 11.15am on Monday 8 April 2019 a 15-year-old girl boarded a bus in Bankstown to make her way to school in South Strathfield.

When the girl sat down a man who was already on the bus attempted to engage her in conversation.

Police have been told that the man allegedly placed his hand on the girl’s leg.

The girl moved seats and the man followed her, sitting directly in front of her.

The man continued to attempt conversation with the girl and spoke to her explicitly.

When the girl got off the bus, the man followed her until she reached her school.

The girl reported the incident and police were notified.

Officers from the Police Transport & Public Safety Command were notified and commenced inquiries.

About 2pm yesterday (Tuesday 9 April 2019), police attended a business in Greenacre where they arrested a 20-year-old man.

He was conveyed to Bankstown Police Station, where he was later charged with intentionally sexually touch child between 10 and 16 and sexually touch person without consent.

The man was granted strict conditional bail to appear at Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday 1 May 2019.
