NSW police charge man over importation of firearm parts and fraud offences at Blacktown

A man has been charged following an investigation into the alleged importation of firearm parts in Sydney’s west.

In October 2019, Australian Border Force (ABF) officers inspected a package at the Sydney Gateway Facility, which had arrived from the United States.

The consignment was x-rayed, and ABF officers identified it contained firearm parts that are prohibited in New South Wales.

The matter was referred to the NSW Police Force and detectives from Blacktown Police Area Command established Strike Force Carwin to investigate the importation.

Following extensive inquiries, a search warrant was executed at a unit on Wallace Street, Blacktown, about 8am yesterday (Tuesday 5 May 2020). A 36-year-old man was arrested and taken to Blacktown Police Station.

During the search, police seized documentation and other items relevant to the investigation.

He was charged with three counts of acquire prohibited firearm part no authority to do so, attempt manufacture prohibited firearm without licence/permit, two counts of deal with identity info to commit indictable offence and two counts of dishonestly obtain property by deception.

The man was refused bail to appear before Parramatta Local Court today (Wednesday 6 May 2020).
