A woman will face court after a high-speed police pursuit in the state’s north yesterday.
About 11am (Sunday 22 December 2019), officers attached to New England Traffic and Highway Patrol Command signalled for a Volkswagen Golf to stop at a roadside breath testing site on the New England Highway, near Armidale.
The Queensland registered vehicle allegedly failed to stop, and a pursuit was initiated.
Shortly after the pursuit was terminated due to safety concerns.
The vehicle stopped at Uralla as it approached further police, where it is alleged the driver, a 26-year-old woman, disposed of a bag containing a substance believed to be methylamphetamine.
During a subsequent vehicle search, police seized a replica pistol, balaclavas and bandanas. They will be forensically examined.
The driver, a 26-year-old woman, and a 31-year-old female passenger, who are understood to have been travelling from Toowoomba towards Sydney, were arrested.
The driver was taken to Armidale Hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing but allegedly refused to provide samples.
She was taken to Armidale Police Station where she was charged with possess prohibited drug, police pursuit – not stop – drive at speed, drive while licence cancelled and prevent sample taker from taking of blood sample.
The woman was granted conditional bail to appear at Armidale Local Court on Thursday 9 January 2020.
The passenger was released without charge pending further inquiries.
