NSW police charge woman over fatal crash

A woman has been charged over a fatal in the Illawarra region last month.

About 7.15pm on Friday 5 March 2021, emergency services responded to reports a Holden Statesman and a Nissan Juke, both travelling south, collided on the M1 Princes Highway, near the Masters Road off-ramp at Mount St Thomas.

Following the initial crash, the Statesman hit a median strip before crashing into a tree.

The driver, a 47-year-old woman, died at the scene.

Her three passengers – a 15-year-old girl and two boys, aged five and 10 – were air lifted to The Children’s Hospital at Westmead suffering serious injuries.

The Nissan driver, a 29-year-old woman, and her passenger, a 32-year-old man, were uninjured. The driver was taken to hospital for mandatory blood and urine testing.

Following inquiries by officers from the Southern Region Crash Investigation Unit, the Nissan driver, now aged 30, was issued a Court Attendance Notice for six offences about 10am today (Saturday 10 April 2021).

The charges include dangerous driving occasioning death-drive manner dangerous, dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm-drive manner dangerous, negligent driving (occasioning death), negligent driving (occasions grievous bodily harm), and two counts of cause bodily harm by misconduct, in charge of motor vehicle.

The Lake Heights woman is due to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday 20 July 2021.

Her licence was also suspened.
