NSW police investigating after car stolen at gunpoint at Albury

An investigation is underway after a car was allegedly stolen at gunpoint in the state’s south yesterday.

About 1.45am (Tuesday 3 March 2020), a man was sitting in a white Mazda 6 on Kurnell Street, North Albury, when he was approached by three men wearing face coverings.

One of the men approached the front-passenger door and struck the driver in the face and arm with a metal pole, before demanding keys and the man’s wallet.

A second man allegedly opened the driver’s door and threatened the driver with a firearm, before again demanding keys to the vehicle.

The third man entered the backseat of the vehicle.

The driver left the vehicle and ran from the men, who followed him in his vehicle. The man hid in the front yard of a property on Kurnell Street before seeking assistance from a nearby house as the vehicle drove away.

The matter was reported to police, and officers from Murray River Police District commenced an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The man was taken to Albury Hospital with injuries to his head and chin.

About 2.40am yesterday (Tuesday 3 March 2020), the stolen car was located on fire at Reservoir Road, Lavington.

As investigations continue, police are appealing for anyone who may have information, or noticed anything suspicious around the time of the incident to come forward.
