NSW police lay charges after police pursuit at Batemans Bay

Two women have been charged following a police pursuit in Batemans Bay yesterday.

About 10.45am (Friday 28 February 2020), the driver of a black Holden Commodore sedan allegedly left the scene of a crash on the Princes Highway at Mogo, without exchanging details.

Officers attached to Batemans Bay Highway Patrol located the sedan travelling near the intersection of Cranbrook Road with smoke coming from the front driver’s-side tyre.

After police attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver allegedly accelerated, and a pursuit was initiated.

It was terminated due to the manner of driving.

A short time later, the car crashed into a truck at the intersection of the Princes Highway with the driver and a female passenger fleeing the scene on foot.

The two women were arrested nearby on Vesper Street and taken to Batemans Bay Police Station.

The 19-year-old woman driving the car has been charged with

• Negligent driving (two counts)

• Police pursuit – not stop – drive dangerously

• Drive recklessly/furiously or speed/manner dangerous

• Exceed speed over 30km/h

• Not stop vehicle when directed

• Never-licensed person drive vehicle on road

• Not give particulars to other driver, and

• Not give particulars to owner of damaged property.

She was refused bail to appear at Batemans Bay Local Court today (Saturday 29 February 2020).

The 46-year-old passenger was issued a Field Court Attendance notice for possess prohibited drug after officers found methylamphetamine when the vehicle was searched.

She is due to appear in Batemans Bay Local Court on Monday 23 March 2020.
